A Laser Cutting Powerhouse
It’s been over 5 years now since we first installed the TruLaser 1030 and over the years we have put it through the test. Below I will detail our experience using this powerhouse of a machine. I will cover everything, from what we love about the TruLaser 1030 as well as some aspects that could benefit from a little improvement. If you would like to see our laser cutting capabilites, then SEE OUR LASER CUTTING CAPABILITIES HERE
As you may know already, the TruLaser 1030 is designed as a compact and cost-effective solution for steel fabrication businesses looking to drive their cutting capabilities. Powered by the TruDisk laser, the TruLaser 1030 delivers high-speed cutting with precise finishes.
Key Features:
-
TruDisk Laser:
The core of the TruLaser 1030 is its TruDisk, this is the laser source and is a standalone system that connects to the Trulaser Machine. It is stated that the TruDisk Laser is known for its high beam quality, stability, and long lifespan.
-
User-Friendly Interface
The machine is equipped with TRUMPF’s screen display control system, making it accessible even for operators with minimal laser cutting experience.
-
Efficiency and Speed:
With high acceleration and rapid cutting speeds, the TruLaser 1030 is designed to maximize productivity.
Setup and Initial Impressions
-
Installation
The installation itself took a day. The machine was brought on-site via an Arctic truck and local crane operators, Kavanaghs, were used to help with the off-loading of the machine. A trolley was then used to get the machine into place, where it was lowered and secured. Once secured, the configuration & calibration process had to take place, which is a much longer process.
-
Alignment & Configuration
This is the time-consuming element of the set-up phase. Parts such as the laser head need calibration and all software needs to be set up on the different systems. The total calibration and software set-up took a little over a week. Things may be faster now, 5 years on.
Performance and Capabilities Review
-
Materials Tested
We have a cutting range of from 1mm to 20mm, depending on the material being cut. Aluminium to stainless steel.See our laser cutting specs HERE

Things We Love About the Trulaser 1030
-
Ease of Use
The Trulaser’s biggest strength is its ease of use. Its user interface is intuitive, making it easy to understand. A novice operator can be trained in on the necessary functions of the machine in 3 days, and comprehensive training can be done in 1-2 weeks.
-
Speed & Precision
From a business perspective, this is the greatest impact that the Trulaser has had for us at Propel Manufacturing. The laser operates at high speeds and accuracy, meaning that we are capable of processing high volume orders in a short amount of time.
Areas For Improvement
-
Software Issues
The main pain point for us has been software related. In the past, a new update may have a bug, once this becomes apparent, it may take a number of days to patch the update and during this time, some functions may not be in use.
-
Spares & Parts
Spares & Parts: Depending on the part needed, this may take a number of days to arrive and to have installed. Of course, this really depends on the part and your location
Final Thoughts
Overall, the TruLaser 1030 has been a revolutionary machine for us at Propel Manufacturing. Being able to achieve such a high output in both speed and precision has allowed us to meet and exceed our production targets consistently. We would recommend the 1030 for sheet metal fabricators specialising in steel and sheet-metal fabrication.
